Essay: Becoming A Swimming Champion

In this globe, there are many sports which are very fun to do. Besides, those sports can bring us many advantages. We can be healthy, tough, and have a great body. Not only that, sports can also make money and popularity. Which sports can bring us wealth and popularity? Well, actually, every sport can make us wealthy and famous. But, as we can see, there are only some sports and their champions or top athletes which are famous in our daily life. What are they? They are football, basketball, tennis, volley, badminton, taekwondo, swimming, and et cetera. Let’s take swimming as our example. Swimming is a good, beneficial, and popular sport. This sport has a lot of famous and great athletes, such as Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, Dana Vollmer, and et cetera. They were like shining stars on Olympics 2012. They had stunning performances. Their super ability and talent makes many people, especially those who like swimming, envy. How to be a swimming champion? I think, there are at least 3 ways to become a swimming champion.
Firstly, you have to do a lot of practice everyday. Because many people say that practice makes perfect. Practice results in perfection. I truly believe it. Why? Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, and Dana Vollmer have proved it.  As we can see on television and the internet, before they faced the Olympics 2012, they were practicing and working hard everyday without complaining. And the results? We can see it on the Olympics 2012. They got medals. They really had great performances. Everybody praised them. Everybody gave them thunderous applause. Even Dana Vollmer set a World Record.
The second way is being determined and sportive. Being a winner is not a piece of a cake. There are many obstacles which we have to cope with. Without determination and sportsmanship, we are nothing. Determination and sportsmanship is what any sports, especially swimming, all about. These virtues is really important for every athlete. I think all swimmers, which don’t shine brightly, are not poles apart with Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, and Dana Vollmer. They similarly have faced losings. In spite of their similarity, they also have a difference. Usually, those not-bright-swimmers let losings make them despair. On the contrary, Phelps, Lochte, and Vollmer don’t want any losings let them down. Even Phelps, Lochte, and Vollmer use those losings as their teachers to make them become better swimmers in the future. That’s why they can be champions in the end. Without any determination and sportsmanship, they can’t do that. Determination and sportsmanship have thought them not only to accept any losings sincerely, but also not to let any losings become their biggest fears and obstacles to obtain tons of winnings. This is why I say determination and sportsmanship is very essential.
Thirdly, be optimistic. Let’s take a look at Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte, and Dana Vollmer. They have faced many losings and hard obstacles. I believe, at that time, if they were not optimistic enough, they wouldn’t be as great as they are right now. Why? Let’s see what usually occur in our daily life. I ever joined a swimming class when I was a 8th grader. My teacher asked me to swim in a two meters pool. At first, I was totally afraid. At that time, I thought, what happened if I can’t swim well? What happened if I can’t breath well? What happened if I get cramp? Will I sink? Will I die? Then, my teacher came to me and he seemed to know what was my problem. He told me that I had to think that I could do it. I had to say ‘I can do it!’ in my heart as much as I can. I did his advice while I was swimming in that two meters pool. What happened next? I could swim well in that two meters pool. I didn’t sink. I didn’t die. After that, my teacher told me that if you are optimistic, you can do anything. Because optimism can boost our self-confidence and self-motivation. You may think that swimming is an easy sport to do. But, actually, it’s not that easy. This is why I think if you want to be a great swimmer you have to be optimistic enough to have great self-confidence and self-motivation.
All in all, in order to become a swimming champion, we have to practice and work hard, be determined and sportive, and also be optimistic to boost our self-confidence and self-motivation. Those ways are very effective and beneficial. Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte and Dana Vollmer have proved that those ways can make them become champions. We can apply those ways not only for becoming a swimming champion, but also for becoming any other sports champion.
